Savanna, a city in Carroll County, Illinois, United States. The population was 4,331 at the 2010 census, up from 3,542 at the 2000 census. Savanna is located along the Mississippi River at the mouth of the Plum River. Going from north to south, the second automobile bridge between Iowa and Illinois is located just north of Savanna, and is part of the U.S. Highway 52 route. The bridge leads to Sabula, Iowa, which is across the river from Savanna. U.S. Highway 52 goes through Savanna. Savanna is also served by two major Railroads, the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway (BNSF) Railway Company and the Iowa, Chicago and Eastern Railroad (IC&E). Savanna also has a small airport, The Tri-Township Airport (KSFY). Savanna is protected by the Savanna Police, Savanna Fire Department and Savanna Ambulance Service. All three of these organizations maintain stations on Chicago Avenue. Previously all three organizations were together in the same building (a throwback to when the fire department was responsible for the ambulance) but recently this original building only houses the fire department and one of the 2 County 911 dispatch centers.
